Description
All-Terrain Chariot Filming Miniature with Interior Character Figures from Lost in Space (CBS, 1965-1968). Vintage original model miniature of one of the most familiar and groundbreaking vehicles in Sci-Fi entertainment history. Constructed of metal, wood, cast resin, vacuum-formed plastic, and mixed-media components. Expertly assembled, painted, detailed, and finished to appear as a futuristic full-sized extraterrestrial all-terrain vehicle. The model features acrylic windowpanes surrounding the cab, giving a clear view of the interior, replete with built-in seats and detailed, cast foam latex miniature figures of 5-seated characters in fabric costumes, plus the B-9 Robot. These figures are believed to have been created by the legendary sculptor and model builder Marcel Delgado, who was stop-motion animation wizard, Willis O'Brien's longtime collaborator. Embellished with meticulous detail including grill cage and ladders as well as minuscule rivets and other nuanced details. The remarkable model also retains its original rubber tires and the unique metal and rubber-gasket tank crawler tracks. This is a striking miniature of the full-sized, operational Space Chariot, which was based on a full-sized 1965 Snow Cat produced by Thiokol. The model retains its bubble dome and radar dish at the top front and a luggage rack in the top rear, replete with miniature steamer trunks and containers strapped in place. This spectacular model miniature measures 33" x 18" x 23," and is affixed to a 20" x 36" x 3" wooden, black-painted display base. Exhibiting expected age, production wear, and with some deterioration to track rubber, interior character figures, paint crazing, paint chipping and with one roof window panel curled inward.
